CAS Win Cricket Matches Against GPS

The CAS have won both the Opens and U15s matches against the GPS on Sunday.

In another tight game the firsts won the toss this week and choose to bat and were under pressure early loosing a wicket in the second over. Several good partnerships followed to put CAS in a strong position of 2 /82 at the first drinks break. Strong batting continued with Tom Bermingham scoring 65, Satva Shah 53 NO and Xander Carstens 39. CAS finished on 9/242 off the full 50 Overs.

Into the field the team went and Jack Quinane struck in the first over with a sharp caught and bowled. GPS continued to fight on but lost another wicket in the 6th over to be 2/24 with Quinane taking the wicket. GPS started to put some partnerships together but were always slightly behind on run rate. A string of wickets in the middle order put GPS under pressure which they responded with a 61 run partnerships but again 2 quick wickets put the CAS back on top. At 8/184 the match was not over and GPS fought on Toby McDonald then put his stamp on the game removing danger man Finn Bailey with a run out and taking 2 more wickets including the final wicket with his bowling.

The CAS players will now progress onto the CIS Open Trials to be held this week.

The CAS U15s also won the toss however they choose to bowl and put GPS in. Kirby Mulligan was very effective bowling first change and took the first 3 wickets to have GPS 3/46 after 15 overs. The GPS Captain steadied the team with a strong 51. Alexander Conoplia then took 2 wickets in the 29 over to have CAS on the front foot. The team kept chipping away and had GPS all out for 180 in 48.5 overs.

CAS lost a wicket early and were 1/10 solid partnerships then followed with Sean Twining top scoring with 88 NO and Christopher Harris scoring 30. CAS chased down the target in the 44 over.

CAS Defeat ISA in Opens Cricket Representative Match

CAS have won a hard fought game against the ISA in the 1st XI cricket match played at St Pius grounds at Oxford Falls on Sunday. CAS lost the toss and were put into the field and had to work hard for wickets. The ISA batsmen made starts but no one could go on with it. For CAS Satva Shah bowled very well taking 5/37 off 8.4 overs. The other CAS bowlers also bowled well without luck. ISA were all out for 154 in the 48th over.

The CAS innings started slowly due to some excellent bowling from the ISA opening bowlers which saw CAS 2/12 off 8 overs. Captain Tom Bermingham then came to the crease and started to build an innings to steady his team. A partnership of 54 with Martis Johri followed and CAS started to put the pressure back out to the fielding side. At 66 Martis Johri was bowled and William Livissianis joined Bermingham for a 44 run partnership. 2 wickets fell quickly and now it was CAS back under pressure.

Satva Shah came to the crease and worked the singles to get the strike to Bermingham. The had a 35 run partnership which included 1 over of 19 runs. It was this over that put CAS back on the front foot with now only 15 runs required. As the 150 was reached both Jonathon McDonald and Tom Bermingham fell to good bowling and it was left to William Byrom and Lachlan Barber to score the final 5 runs for victory.

Tom Bermingham was the top scorer for the match with 69.

CAS take on GPS in the Under 15s and 1sts this Sunday. Under 15s will be on the Main Oval at Barker and the 1sts will be at Curagul Field both matches start at 10am.
